A Statement of Utah Values
Protecting Our Community from Harmful Detention Centers
A STATEMENT OF UTAH VALUES
On the Proposed ICE Detention Facility at 6020 West 300 South, Salt Lake City
A Declaration by Utahns
We come together as Utahns — faith and community leaders, business owners, human service and healthcare providers, environmentalists, taxpayers, and neighbors — united by shared values that have long defined this state's character, and opposed to the inhumane and harmful proposed warehouse detention facility.
The Utah Compact on Immigration, signed in 2010 and reaffirmed in 2019, committed Utah's leaders to a set of principles rooted in humanity, fiscal responsibility, the rule of law, and the well-being of families and communities. Those principles did not expire. They are the Utah Way.

The proposed construction of a 833,000-square-foot ICE warehouse mega-facility at 6020 West 300 South in Salt Lake City, with a reported capacity of 7,500 to 10,000 detainees, would be the largest immigration detention center in the nation. We call on our elected officials, federal partners, and community leaders to oppose this or other immigration detention centers in Utah and to insist on approaches to immigration enforcement that reflect our values as Utahns.
